Crucial to the work of ministry is a Pastor whose heart is alive to the gospel of Jesus. His labour is hard, his hours long and the discouragements are many. Day after day he must speak to the hearts of those around him whether neighbour, friend or seasons church member. He is present at those time when people are most vulnerable, moments of greatest joy and deepest loss. 

This year Essential is delighted to welcome Ray Ortlund Jr. and Andrew Collins. 

Ray has been a pastor for over 40 years and brings a wealth of experience and Biblical insight to bear as we look at the heart of the Pastor. Ray graduated from Wheaton College as a Bachelor of Arts, from Dallas Theological Seminary as a Master of Theology, from The University of California at Berkeley as a Master of Arts, and from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, as a Doctor of Philosophy. He is Senior Pastor of Immanuel Church Nashville and husband to Jani. 

Andrew is from Portadown, Northern Ireland and is on the executive committee of Biblical Counselling UK. He works part-time as a consultant psychiatrist in Psychiatric Intensive Care and part-time in biblical counselling. He will be guiding us as we think through pastoring the heart. Andrew is married to Nicola and has five children.

Essential is a ministry of Irish Church Missions and from this year is delighted to partner with Acts 29 Ireland. Both organisations are committed to training pastors and planters with a desire to catalyse further church planting across Ireland.
