Description
In typical Puritan evangelistic fashion he warns sinners to flee from the wrath to come. To do so, he sets out the theme of “fire and brimstone” as it has never been done before, showing first the punishment upon wicked Sodom. He then uses a contemporary illustration in the eruption of Mt. Etna in his own day, and tells harrowing stories of how people were overtaken by that natural disaster. And then, last, he shows how insignificant those two things will be compared to the coming judgment upon the impenitent.
