David Bleakley was born close to the Lewis family home in Strandtown and has shared many common links. His association with C.S Lewis was greatly strengthened during student days at Oxford in the 1940’s. Since then he has done pioneer work in the promotion of Lewis Studies in Ireland, with particular reference to Lewis’ Irish background. He has written widely on peacemaking and adult education studies and is a leading member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation. He has also served as General Secretary of the Irish Council of Churches and President of the Church Mission Society. A Privy Councillor, he has decorated C.B.E for services to Church and State.
